The Joanne McMahon Fund for musical excellence at First Church across the seasons

At First Church, in recognition of the importance of community, The Joanne McMahon Music Program Fund is created to build on the foundation Joanne laid over 57 years of leadership as Music Director and music teacher. The Fund is formed to keep music at church vibrant while enhancing and expanding our contributions to the life of our community for all ages. Joanne brought together students from Ipswich Public Schools and local musicians here for both Sunday services and annual concerts.

As the church stands in the center of our town and our town’s story, we have sought to be a source of music for the community through having diverse and excellent music at First Church Sunday services, through the monthly Coffeehouse at our Meetinghouse, and Gather on the Green Annual Arts and Music Festival. We host concerts and recitals including North Shore Youth Orchestra. The Orchestra on The Hill was founded by Joanne McMahon here at First Church. We do outreach to seniors with Thursdays of Service Middle School Youth group who visit. Music teachers are part of weekly church activities for all children and youth. The Music Program Fund will provide our church with the resources to build on Joanne’s legacy.
